History & Background:

Camo’s Bistro is located in the heart of  Caherciveen, on the world famous ‘Ring of Kerry’. Chef Rory McCarthy has over twenty years experience in catering and is the 3th generation in a family with proud tradition of crating and serving culinary delights and using only the finest locally sourced produce.

My Grandfather James Devane earned the nickname ‘Camo’ due to his calm demeanor in life. It did not take long for “Camo” to become the family name!! within the town. My Grandmother Hanna ran a vegetable and grocery  shop. However it was my mother Mary (camo) McCarthy who first introduce the idea of hot food. Mary Camo started serving soup sandwiches and boiled crubeens after the dances in the 70s & 80s .

Mary Camo then decided to start the restaurant. She thoroughly enjoyed her days, cooking up a storm to feed her  loyal customers, who dropped in weekly to sample the latest culinary delights that she had created.

Both the ‘Camo’ name and the calm nature I am proud to say has been passed on through the generations to myself, I know this, as I am often reminded of this from my loyal customers who are the backbone of “Camos”.

I have now be running Camos for over a decade, growing it from a small local café to a successful bistro employing a staff of 10, who make it all possible and I am very proud of my staff because it is them that make “Camo’s” what it is.

Hope to serve you soon

Rory

The original ‘Camo’ above, can be seen looking mighty dapper in his suit & hat on the company logo and packaging of ‘Camo’s Artisan Products’, ensuring the ‘Camo’ legacy lives proudly on.
